New Delhi: As many as 100 PM Vishwakarma beneficiaries from the Delhi-NCR region have been invited as ‘Special Guests’ to witness the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort on August 15.
The beneficiaries, along with their spouses or companions, will attend the national ceremony. The group includes women artisans from various traditional trades, highlighting their role in preserving India’s craft heritage and strengthening livelihoods.
The invited artisans will also receive souvenirs as a mark of recognition. On August 14, they are scheduled to interact with officials of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) at the Indian Institute of Public Administration in Delhi.
The PM Vishwakarma scheme provides comprehensive support to artisans and craftspeople engaged in traditional occupations through skill training, modern toolkits, financial assistance, digital enablement and market linkages. So far, 30 lakh traditional artisans and craftspeople have been registered under the scheme.
The beneficiaries invited for the Independence Day event represent the 18 traditional trades covered under PM Vishwakarma, including tailoring, carpentry, goldsmithing, blacksmithing and locksmithing.
Many of the invited beneficiaries have received basic skill training, toolkits and other benefits under the scheme.
Their participation at the Red Fort is intended to recognise the contribution of India’s traditional artisans and craftspeople and highlight their role in preserving the country’s cultural heritage while building sustainable livelihoods.
