Lucknow: Heavy storms, rain and hailstorms caused widespread destruction across Uttar Pradesh, leaving more than 75 people dead in incidents including wall collapses, falling trees and lightning strikes.
According to officials, Prayagraj recorded the highest number of deaths at 17, followed by Bhadohi with 10, Fatehpur with 8, Unnao with 7, Badaun with 6 and Bareilly with 4 fatalities.
In Unnao district, a 70-year-old farmer died after a tree fell on him in the Dahi area, while a boy also lost his life in Asiwan.
The rain and strong winds, which began on Wednesday afternoon, intensified into a severe storm by evening, uprooting hundreds of trees and electricity poles. Power supply was disrupted in several districts.

Authorities said fallen trees blocked roads, disrupted traffic and damaged houses and vehicles. Hundreds of people were also reported injured in the disaster.
The Chief Minister’s Office has directed district administrations to speed up relief and rescue operations and ensure immediate assistance to affected families.
