Washington: US President Donald Trump has indicated that he may review a 2022 law restricting Russian petroleum imports after being asked about a vessel carrying Russian diesel bound for the US.
Trump told reporters that the law might not be appropriate and that he would examine the issue. No official decision to lift the restrictions has been announced.

On October 9, the US Treasury Department authorised the sale, transport, unloading and import of Russian-origin diesel until April 7, 2027. The exemption does not cover all Russian petroleum products.
The restrictions, introduced on April 8, 2022, prohibit imports of Russian petroleum products. Their removal is linked to conditions including an end to the Ukraine war and the withdrawal of Russian forces.
