New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in collaboration with the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, has announced the winners of its Biometric SDK Benchmarking Challenges for face and iris recognition technologies.
The initiative forms part of UIDAI’s efforts to promote advanced biometric research and support the development of indigenous biometric software solutions.
The Face and Iris Age Variance Challenges were conducted between December 2025 and February 2026 and attracted a total of 531 registrations from technology firms and research institutions across the world.
In the Face Challenge, Innovatrics secured the top position, followed by IDBio and Neurotechnology.
In the Iris Challenge, IDBio emerged as the winner, with Neurotechnology finishing second and Innovatrics securing third place.
Several Indian organisations and academic institutions, including Perfios, Ooru and IIIT Hyderabad, also participated in the competition.
According to UIDAI, the challenges evaluated one-to-one face and iris matching technologies using large anonymised datasets in a controlled environment. A unique feature of the exercise was the use of long-term biometric datasets of children aged between five and ten years, with a five-year gap between samples, to assess how accurately biometric systems can identify individuals as they grow.
UIDAI said the challenge is among the first of its kind globally to use such datasets for addressing real-world biometric identity issues related to children.
The authority recognised the top-performing participants and encouraged continued innovation in the biometric technology ecosystem to strengthen future digital identity solutions.
