Srinagar: Two Army personnel were killed after an accidental explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector on Wednesday, officials said.
The blast occurred in the Kamalkot area of Baramulla district, leaving the soldiers critically injured. They were rushed to the Army’s Base Hospital in Badamibagh Cantonment, Srinagar, where they later succumbed to their injuries despite efforts to save them.
The deceased were identified as Arjun Jadhav and Vikram Balakrishna, both hailing from Maharashtra and serving with the 8 Rashtriya Rifles.
Officials said the exact circumstances leading to the explosion are yet to be established and an investigation has been initiated.
The incident occurred in a highly sensitive border zone along the LoC, where security forces maintain round-the-clock vigilance against infiltration attempts, smuggling activities and drone threats from across the border.
The LoC stretches nearly 740 km through the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora in Kashmir, and through Poonch and Rajouri districts in the Jammu region. The Army is responsible for guarding the LoC, while the Border Security Force (BSF) secures the International Border.
Authorities said further details would be released after the completion of the preliminary inquiry into the blast.
