New Delhi: World leaders have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister, hailing his leadership and India’s growing global influence.
Leaders from several countries praised Modi’s governance, economic reforms and advocacy for the Global South as he surpassed the record for the longest uninterrupted tenure by a democratically elected Prime Minister in India.
In a letter dated June 8, Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the milestone reflected the trust repeatedly reposed in Modi by the people of the world’s largest democracy. He also lauded India’s economic and social transformation under Modi’s leadership and noted that his vision had inspired countries beyond India, including Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan President recalled Modi’s visit to the island nation in April 2025, during which he was conferred the country’s highest civilian honour for a foreign dignitary, the Mitra Vibhushana.
James Marape, in a video message, described Modi as a “role model” and praised India’s efforts in lifting millions out of poverty. He also expressed his country’s desire to further strengthen ties with India.
Marape referred to Modi’s historic visit to Papua New Guinea in 2023 for the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Summit, the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Pacific nation.
Meanwhile, Kamla Persad-Bissessar said India had emerged as a leading voice on global issues under Modi’s leadership. She highlighted India’s achievements in economic growth, infrastructure development, foreign policy and social welfare initiatives.
She also recalled Modi’s landmark visit to Trinidad and Tobago in July 2025, the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 26 years, which coincided with the 180th anniversary of the arrival of Indian immigrants in the Caribbean country.
The congratulatory messages came as Modi achieved another milestone in Indian political history, with leaders across the world acknowledging India’s rising stature on the global stage under his leadership.
