The Hague: India and the Netherlands have elevated their bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the European nation. The decision was announced in a joint statement issued after talks between PM Modi and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten.
The two countries adopted a Strategic Partnership Roadmap covering cooperation in trade, defence, semiconductors, cyber security, AI, quantum technology, space, water management, climate action, energy transition and sustainable transport.
Prime Minister Modi also met King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace in The Hague. The leaders reviewed progress in bilateral ties and discussed expanding cooperation in innovation, green energy, agriculture, healthcare and maritime sectors.
India and the Netherlands signed several agreements, including cooperation in defence, semiconductors, critical minerals, healthcare, education and customs assistance. Both sides also agreed to strengthen defence industrial collaboration and cyber security cooperation.
The Netherlands announced its decision to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and co-lead the Capacity Building and Resource Sharing pillar along with Germany and the European Union.
On global issues, both nations expressed concern over the Ukraine conflict and tensions in West Asia. The leaders emphasized dialogue, diplomacy and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
PM Modi also highlighted opportunities for Dutch companies under India’s “Make in India” initiative and invited investments in clean energy, semiconductors, manufacturing and green hydrogen.
The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in water management, including technical support for Gujarat’s Kalpasar project, and maritime development through a proposed “Green and Digital Sea Corridor.”
