Tumakuru Name Will Not Be Changed, Clarifies Home Minister Parameshwara

Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara has clarified that there is no proposal to change the name of Tumakuru district and said unnecessary misconceptions are being spread regarding the issue.

In a clarification issued on Wednesday, Parameshwara stated that he had never made any statement suggesting that Tumakuru would be renamed as “Bengaluru North.” He also clarified that there would be no change in the geographical extent of the district.

“The name of Tumakuru, known as the ‘Land of Imagination’, will not be changed under any circumstances. I have not issued any statement regarding changing the name,” he said.

The minister explained that the idea of considering Tumakuru under the Bengaluru Development Zone concept was only aimed at accelerating the district’s overall growth and development.

According to him, linking Tumakuru with Bengaluru-model infrastructure and investment opportunities could help attract more industries, investments and employment opportunities to the district.

Parameshwara stressed that there would be no harm to Tumakuru’s identity, dignity or historical significance.

“Tumakuru will always retain its unique identity as the ‘Land of Imagination’. People should not believe in misinformation or confusion being created over this matter,” he added.
