Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said the results of the Legislative Council elections indicate support for the Congress government and its policies aimed at public welfare.
Reacting to the victory on social media and at a press conference held at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar congratulated the winning Congress candidates — B.K. Hariprasad, B.S. Shivanna, P.V. Mohan, Vinay Karthik and Tippannappa Kamakanur.
Shivakumar said the support received from legislators was not merely backing for the government but a sign of confidence in its work for the people of Karnataka.
“The support has come beyond party lines. It shows that legislators believe in the steps being taken for the welfare of the state,” he said.
He thanked Congress legislators, party leaders and AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala for their efforts in ensuring the victory.
Shivakumar said special training was provided to legislators to ensure that not a single vote was invalidated and appreciated officials who helped in the process.
Recalling the election numbers, he said the Congress had fielded five candidates and had confidence that all five would win based on the party’s strength in the Assembly — a prediction that, according to him, turned out to be correct.
The Chief Minister said the trust shown by legislators would strengthen the government’s commitment towards development and public welfare.
