Karnataka hikes minimum wages by 60%, govt issues notification

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has issued a notification increasing minimum wages for workers in the state by 60%, Labour Minister Santosh Lad said on Sunday.

Sharing the update on X, Lad said the Congress government had fulfilled a long-pending demand of workers by implementing the wage revision.

“Our government has issued a notification to increase the minimum wage by 60%,” the minister said, adding that the revised structure would provide greater financial security to workers across multiple sectors, including those in the unorganised workforce.

According to Lad, the wage revision has been carried out in line with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India.

He also said that, for the first time, all scheduled employments in the state had been brought under a single notification. The earlier classification structure has now been reorganised into four zones, he added.

The minister said the revised wage framework is expected to benefit lakhs of workers employed across 81 scheduled sectors in Karnataka and provide greater economic stability to labourers and their families.
