Mysuru Dasara: Pramodadevi Wadiyar Expresses Displeasure Over Ambari Elephant Selection

Mysuru: Royal family member Pramodadevi Wadiyar has expressed displeasure over the alleged withholding of information about the selection of the elephant to carry the Golden Howdah (Ambari) during the Mysuru Dasara Jambu Savari procession.

She alleged that, for the first time in 45 years, she had not been informed about the selection of the Ambari elephant. According to Pramodadevi, the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) did not share the details even after she specifically sought them. She said she had to obtain information about the elephant participating in the Jambu Savari through the DCF at the last minute.

Pramodadevi urged the state government to retain traditional practices while organising Dasara celebrations at the Palace. She suggested that cultural programmes be held within the Palace premises from the first to the seventh day of the festival, as was customary.

She also recommended keeping the Palace premises open on Ayudha Puja and Vijayadashami to allow the royal family to conduct the two observances independently.

Another suggestion was to organise the Ambari procession on the same day as the Chamundi Hill Chariot Festival. She further urged the government to schedule the procession from the Palace to Bannimantap at an appropriate time in the evening.
