Union Minister V. Somanna Drinks Tap Water to Check Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme in Uttarakhand

Haridwar: Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways V. Somanna inspected a piped drinking water supply scheme implemented under the Jal Jeevan Mission at Sultanpur Majri village in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar district and drank water from the supply to personally check its quality.

During the visit, Somanna interacted with villagers, Gram Panchayat members, state government officials and members of the village Pani Samiti to assess the scheme’s implementation and its impact on residents.

The minister expressed satisfaction over the changes brought about in rural drinking water supply under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the information shared during the visit.

Villagers told Somanna that they had previously faced severe water shortages during summer and depended on poor-quality water. Since the introduction of the piped water supply scheme, the village, which has around 150 households, has reportedly been receiving a regular and adequate supply of drinking water.

The visit was aimed at reviewing the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government initiative intended to provide safe drinking water through household tap connections in rural areas.
