Hyderabad: India should move beyond dependence on imported weapons, achieve self-reliance in defence technology and emerge as a major global defence exporter, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said at the curtain-raiser event for Defence Expo 2026.
Emphasising the need to strengthen domestic defence capabilities, Revanth Reddy said India’s next goal should be to develop indigenous technologies and establish itself as a leading supplier of defence equipment to international markets.
He highlighted Hyderabad’s significant role in India’s defence sector, noting that the city hosts important strategic establishments of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.

Referring to Hyderabad’s ability to host major international events, the chief minister recalled that the city organised the Miss World pageant even while Operation Sindoor was underway.
Representatives from 108 countries participated in the event, he said, adding that they experienced a safe and secure environment during their stay in Hyderabad.
