Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge has directed officials not to remove the names of 66 individuals from the rowdy-sheeter list and ordered a detailed inquiry into the issue.
The directive came after reports emerged regarding the proposed deletion of names from the police records, triggering discussions within the Home Department.
Kharge said he had spoken to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and instructed him to conduct a comprehensive investigation into how the process of removing the names was initiated.
The Home Minister also directed officials to take immediate corrective measures if any procedural lapses or errors were found in the functioning of the police department.
According to sources, the issue of eight individuals among the 66 rowdy-sheeters allegedly having links to the BJP was also discussed during the review.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, Kharge said no irregularities would be tolerated in matters related to criminal records and public safety.
He reiterated that the government would take appropriate action wherever mistakes are identified and ensure that due process is followed in maintaining police records.
